      I really like my job.
It has some frustrating moments, like when I have to write a report or there is a big deadline and everything feels a bit hurried – but you get that in any job.
The best bits about my job are:
      – working with other people
      – learning lots
      – trying different things out to see what works
      – seeing the thing you’ve been working on get built
      – going to test the thing you’ve been working on (it’s really cool when you’ve worked out what the test results should look like and you can see the spacecraft changing temperature to match what you said)
      – seeing the thing you’ve been working on launch (although, I’ve not been to a launch site, I’ve just watched them on a screen).

I love what I do! I get to do my own scientific research in my own project which is really exciting, and through that I get to present my research around the world and speak to lots of other researchers. Also part of my work is keeping up to date with the most recent advances in science and engineering in my field which is really interesting. And obviously, making and breaking carbon fibre composites is a pretty cool thing to be doing each day! Doing a PhD has also given me the freedom to do other things I enjoy as part of my job – such as working in schools talking about science and engineering and doing workshops with the next generation of scientists and engineers! I also tutor and mentor a few students and help out with charity projects so I get to experience a lot week to week through my work.

I really enjoy my job! I love working in the space industry – it’s a very exciting area to work in and so diverse. New discoveries in both science and technology are made all the time which help us understand not just our planet but also our universe and I love being part of that community. Engineering is a very creative environment and I love being able to use that side of my brain. I work with some really great and interesting people and they make coming into work fun even on the bad days! Even though my job can be hard and sometimes a bit stressful, knowing that you’ve been part of a team which built something which is travelling hundreds of meters up in space and taking images which can pick out objects a couple of meters big on the ground is very fulfilling.
