A carbon fibre composite is a material that is made up of carbon fibre fabric, and something we call a matrix, which is a hard glue type substance which binds the composite together. Usually, we layer up pieces of this carbon fibre fabric, which is really really strong, and then cover it in the hard glue substance called a resin to create a matrix around it. When this sets, it creates a really strong and really light material. The carbon fibre fabric gives lots of strength to the matrix, and the matrix glues everything together strongly. We can build composites out of lots of materials to get different properties that we might need from a composite.
